Part 8: Slipping back to the SNES.
![](1-001.png)
Now that Howdy and Stan have gone to try catching the blue bird on their own again, this troublemaking frog keeps us from backtracking into Sunny Pond.
![](2-002.png)
So for now, let us push onward to Ticky-Ticky Park proper.
![](3-003.png)
Now that Stan isnt around to keep us from doing so, of course.
![](4-004.png)
Pinecones? You mean, like the one right behind you?!
![](../Smilies/emot-eek.gif)
![](5-005.png)
![](6-PickAxe.gif)
The last obstacle between us and the park is whichever jerk is shaking pinecones and dropping rocks out of this tree. Tip-Top Treetop isnt too difficult if you employ the usual tactic of sticking to the bottom of the screen, thus having more time to react to whats coming.
Theres ten bits of candy in this game, so it should be a fairly easy 60 sunflower points.
![](7-006.png)
Once we climb up, its immediately back down.
![](8-007.png)
![](9-Ladder.gif)
Now that weve gotten over the hedge, were finally inside the park! There also seems to be something stuck in that other tree, but we dont have enough Ham-Hams to reach it yet.
![](10-008.png)
![](11-009.png)
![](12-TPMamaHam.png)
![](13-010.png)
Im not sure theyre old enough to be able to see, let alone get very far. You should be fine, Mama-Ham.
![](14-011.png)
Heading south from the intersection leads to where the soccer goal is set up, which will make for a nice shortcut if we can get rid of it.
![](15-012.png)
![](16-Soccer.gif)
We may need to practice a bit more, though. Heading back and east this time takes us to
![](17-013.png)
![](18-HamtaroHappy.png)
![](19-SandyHappy.png)
![](20-014.png)
![](21-OxnardHappy.png)
![](22-015.png)
Ah, our inability to swim rears its ugly head again.
![](23-016.png)
![](24-TPHelp.png)
Yep-P!
![](24-TPHelp.png)
![](25-017.png)
He leant a little bit heavily on the fourth wall there, didnt he? Also, why arent we just shoving this other guy aside and walking around the puddle? Taking flight seems like a bit of an extreme solution to this problem.
![](26-018.png)
Then again, who doesnt want to ride a (comparatively) huge bird?
![](27-019.png)
![:toot:](../Smilies/emot-toot.gif)
![](28-020.png)
![](29-TPJVic.png)
![](30-021.png)
![](31-022.png)
![](32-023.png)
Why hello there, blatant check to make sure we got Sandy in our party.
![](33-JumpRope.gif)
Final Fantasy IX is my favourite of the series, and Mario Party 2 was the only one I actually owned. If theres one thing I can do, its jump-rope minigames.
![:v:](../Smilies/emot-v.gif)
![](34-024.png)
Youre welcome, little guy! Now people can get to the swings without having to prove their worth like some kind of hero.
![](35-025.png)
![](36-026.png)
Continuing on, this couple seems to be encouraging their kid to jump off the fence. I assume its for the insurance.
![](37-027.png)
Nah, only joking. Its actually a sidequest prompt. There were a bunch of trampolines back in the hamster-sized playground, but we wouldnt be able to get one here with that soccer goal in the way. Another one for the backburner, then.
![](38-028.png)
Heading east from the jumping spot brings us to the swings, which someone says we could use to launch ourselves into the sandbox if that hamster with the sweet sideburns wasnt using it as a place to read his newspaper.
![](39-029.png)
Of course, its actually up this tree that we want to go. Lets get a look at this pigeon
![](40-030.png)
...Hmm.
![](41-031.png)
So, do you think they like hemp, black beans or a racing blend?
![](42-032.png)
Regardless, its time for Sandy to take to the skies, and
![](43-033.png)
Experience the glory of Mode 7 style graphics.
![:toot:](../Smilies/emot-toot.gif)
This minigame just requires moving left and right to pop the red balloons, though some of the bonus candy balloons are occasionally positioned to lure you away from the next one and cause you to fail.
![](44-Dismount.gif)
Ah, such a graceful dismount by the guys here.
![](../Smilies/rolleyes.gif)
![](45-034.png)
Now, you can ride the pigeon back to the swings as a separate minigame, one with ten balloons instead of five. Sooo Enjoy this minigame in motion!
![](46-035.png)
![](47-036.png)
On the slide side of things, we dont have quite enough Ham-Hams to safely drop onto the slide itself, so were going to need to wander around on the ground a bit instead.
![](48-037.png)
The base of the tree has two more carrots for our collection, and this martial arts hamster. Hows it going, buddy?
![](49-038.png)
Wait, what?
![](50-039.png)
![](51-040.png)
What?!
![:psyduck:](../Smilies/emot-psyduck.gif)
![](52-041.png)
So, uh Yeah. The Karate Ham battle is repeatable, and each Ham-Ham has their own set of abilities to use. Scrit-T and Tack-Q are attack moves (the latter seeming stronger), KrmpKrmp restores health, Zuzuzu wastes your turn And Goodgo cheers up a party member who has lost all their hearts, reviving them but not giving back the candy bonus for keeping them in action.
![](53-042.png)
The white and brown belts deal two damage if their attacks connect (and they dont just waste their turns staring into space), but the black belt really means business. This attack deals five damage. He can one-shot four out of five of our available combatants.
![](54-043.png)
So we end up getting our butts kicked pretty hard before managing to take the trio down. You get 30 points plus five for everyone who avoids crying, plus its a pretty nifty little experience.
![](55-044.png)
Dont train too hard. Please, dont.
![](56-045.png)
The next screen just has someone wondering how far that soccer ball would go if someone went down the slide, but the one after that
![](57-046.png)
Leads us right to the other side of the puddle, which means were right next to the fountain where the blue bird is!
![](58-047.png)
![](59-DexterDefault.png)
How nice to see you too, Dexter.
![](60-HamtaroDefault.png)
![](61-OxnardDefault.png)
![](62-048.png)
![](61-OxnardDefault.png)
![](63-049.png)
![](59-DexterDefault.png)
![](64-Wink.gif)
![](65-050.png)
![:toot:](../Smilies/emot-toot.gif)
![](66-051.png)
Alright, lets take a look at this fancy toy boat.
![](67-Fail.gif)
![](68-HamtaroCloseS.png)
![](69-DexterWorryS.png)
![](70-Seed.gif)
![](71-SandyWorryS.png)
![](69-DexterWorryS.png)
![](72-Scare.gif)
Oh, what could possibly be going wrong now?
![](73-052.png)
The eyepatch chicken is back, and he has reinforcements! Hopefully not all five of the Chicky-Chickies are here to harass the Ham-Hams.
![:ohdear:](../Smilies/emot-ohdear.png)
CHEEP CHEEP, CHEEP CHEEP
![](74-BossDepressedS.png)
![](69-DexterWorryS.png)
CHEEP CHEEP, CHEEP CHEEP
![](75-OxnardNervousS.png)
![](76-DexterSurprisedS.png)
![](77-BossAngry.png)
![](78-Brawl.gif)
![](79-BossWorry.png)
![](80-SandyDetermined.png)
![](81-053.png)
![](79-BossWorry.png)
![](82-054.png)
![](71-SandyWorryS.png)
![](83-DexterDetermined.png)
![](84-055.png)
Well, before we go and stop that brawl, lets take a quick peek down at the proper park entrance.
![](85-056.png)
![](86-TPBuster.png)
Sadly, I believe youre mistaken. We cant rely on the park guard in this instance, so lets head back toward our wayward friends.
![](87-057.png)
...After some more minor diversions. Im sure the blue bird will be fine; it can fight off a lone chick, right?
![](88-058.png)
Getting up on the slide lets us play Slip and Dodge, which is basically like those slippery hills back on Flower Ranch, only with more obstacles to watch out for. Seems the guy at the top has about twenty identical brothers.
![](89-Dislodge.gif)
Well, the ball didnt get that much distance from just Hamtaro bumping into it. But it did get us a shortcut!
![](90-059.png)
Thats probably all the water that just sprayed over your lazy butt.
![](91-060.png)
Now, I believe we know someone who might be interested in having this
![](../Smilies/emot-devil.gif)
![](92-061.png)
![](93-TPSoccer.png)
You got it, bud! Well just stand over here and watch
![](94-SoccerS.gif)
![](95-Swirl.gif)
Thats called strategy, my friend.
![:mmmhmm:](96-mmmhmm.gif)
![](97-062.png)
We cant get a trampoline for that one kid to land on yet, but the Hopscotch hamsters have a third version to play.
![](98-063.png)
The third course kicks the difficulty up a few notches by making Pashmina jump faster, giving you less time to react. The bugs are also present, so its definitely not as forgiving as before.
When we move onto the next screen
![](99-064.png)
![](100-065.png)
![](101-SandyDeterminedS.png)
![](102-HamtaroWorryD.png)
![](103-DexterSmug.png)
![](104-SandyDisappointedS.png)
Well, its not like its surprising that Stan is flirting with girls at the first opportunity.
![:v:](../Smilies/emot-v.gif)
![](105-066.png)
The hopscotch course to the west also has a new set-up, and its a doozy. Hopscotch 4 was the absolute bane of my first playthrough, partially because I was tired while trying to play this bit.
![](106-BugF.gif)
Not only is Pashmina jumping quite swiftly, but the course is guaranteed to have this little set-up on it. It took me entirely too many tries to navigate the course successfully the first time around.
![](107-BugS.gif)
This time, it only took two.
![:sugartits:](108-sugartits.001.png)
![](109-067.png)
Hey, didnt we see you hanging out at the school?
![](110-068.png)
Anyway, now that Dexter is with us, lets test his powers of observation.
![](111-Guess.gif)
...This isnt exactly the hardest minigame out there. Anyway, enough dilly-dallying! Lets get Stan and Howdy back in the party.
![](112-069.png)
![](113-HamtaroSad.png)
![](69-DexterWorryS.png)
Fortunately, we already know exactly where Howdy is.
![](114-070.png)
We saw him right at the start of the update, remember?
![](115-071.png)
![](102-HamtaroWorryD.png)
![](116-HowdyWorriedS.png)
![](117-HowdyHappyS.png)
![](118-072.png)
They may have their differences, but the Ham-Hams know when to set them aside and get things done.
![:toot:](../Smilies/emot-toot.gif)
![](69-DexterWorryS.png)
![](119-073.png)
The game actually fade-cuts back to where Stan is, because its nice like that.
![](120-074.png)
![](121-075.png)
Wow, looks like the stairs werent the only thing in need of repairs. This place needs some serious patching up.
![](122-076.png)
![](123-TPNo.png)

![](102-HamtaroWorryD.png)
![](126-StanSurprisedS.png)
![](127-StanHappyS.png)
![](128-077.png)
Anyone else get a sense of deja vu just now?
![](129-078.png)
![](130-079.png)
Thanks, AlphaDream. Keep being awesome.
![:)](../Smilies/smile.gif)
![](131-080.png)
Alright, time to see how the blue bird fared against the Chicky-Chickies.
![](132-Boat.gif)
![](133-081.png)
...How did it manage to tie the other bird up?
![](134-BossDefaultS.png)
![](116-HowdyWorriedS.png)
![](135-082.png)
![](136-HowdyEmbarrassedS.png)
![](137-HowdyJoy.png)
![](138-HowdyHappy.png)
![](139-083.png)
![](140-Oops.gif)
![](141-BossWaterfall.png)
![](142-084.png)
![:stare:](../Smilies/emot-stare.gif)
![](143-085.png)
Yep, time for a boss battle! Our team is fixed this time, but we have probably the strongest Ham-Hams for this fight. Stan has an extra command to Fend-D, which lets him cover whoever has the least amount of health.
Marly, the little chick in the middle, can deal either two or four damage with his attacks. Jack (on the left) does the same, plus he can glare at a Ham-Ham to attempt an instant kill.
![:stare:](../Smilies/emot-stare.gif)
Since were dealing with a boss here, lets have a video. During the first playthough, I got the full 50 points for keeping everyone fighting fit. How about this time?
![](144-086.png)
Haha, no. We won this by the skin of our teeth. I definitely should have prioritised my targets better.
![](145-087.png)
![](74-BossDepressedS.png)
![](116-HowdyWorriedS.png)
![](146-StanHappy.png)

![](147-Escape.gif)
![](74-BossDepressedS.png)
![](148-088.png)
![](149-HowdyNervousS.png)
Speaking of which, where were you four while we were getting our butts kicked?
![](150-089.png)
![](151-090.png)
![](152-Feather.gif)
![](153-091.png)
And with this feather, we have come over halfway to completing our quest.
![:krakentoot:](154-krakentoot.001.gif)
![](155-092.png)
![](138-HowdyHappy.png)
![](156-093.png)
Mmm-hmm! Lets round things out with the usual song and dance.
![](157-094.png)
![](158-BoDefault.png)
![](159-PandaDefault.png)
![](160-BossDefault.png)
![](158-BoDefault.png)
![](79-BossWorry.png)
Heh, yeah Sorry, Boss. You may be the founder, but youre definitely not the leader.
![](158-BoDefault.png)
![](161-095.png)
![](162-PashminaJoy.png)
![](158-BoDefault.png)
![](163-096.png)
![](164-097.png)
![](60-HamtaroDefault.png)
![](165-Celebrate.gif)
With four ingredients found, and all but one of the Clubhouse regulars having had time in our party, perhaps its time to take a little break
